Schreiber Shannon Associates
Becky Schreiber & John Shannon, Partners

becky schreiber and john shannonFor more than twenty-five years, we have been providing consulting services to private industry and government clients, first as internal organization development consultants; and since 1983, as partners with Schreiber Shannon Associates.

We assist organizations in re-inventing themselves to respond quickly to customer expectations and a changing marketplace. Toward that goal, we work with clients to align their organizations to commonly held values, vision, and strategies. We help our clients develop capacity to capitalize on the dynamic forces of change that are unleashed once an organization is in motion. Since involvement generates commitment, the key element is building a "critical mass" of employees committed to the change. Our pragmatic approach appeals to managers who have equal commitment to the bottom line and to maximizing the creative potential of their employees. The usual result of our efforts is a high energy, customer driven environment - with all levels committed to quality, cost containment and productivity.

Becky has an M.Ed. in Counseling from The American University and a B.S. from Hood College. John received his MS from the Johns Hopkins University, in Applied Behavioral Sciences and his BS from the University of Dayton. To stay current in the field, we have participated in professional organizations, presenting workshops for the National Organization Development Network, initiating formation of the Chesapeake Bay ODN, and serving as faculty for National Training Laboratories.

We provide re-design, strategic planning, quality management, and labor/management partnership efforts to corporate clients including Intel, IBM, Ford Motor Company, American National Savings, Harley Davidson, Marriott Corporation, Honeywell, Magma Copper; and in the health care industry for Daughters of Charity hospitals, Presbyterian Healthcare, and Columbia-Freestate Healthcare. We have also worked extensively in government contracts with Sandia and Los Alamos National Laboratories, the Internal Revenue Service, the Office of International Trade, OPM, and Immigration & Naturalization. In the non-profit area, we have worked with Futures For Children and Holistic Management International.

John is a contemporary artist; exhibiting his work at a number of galleries in New Mexico. He also enjoys riding his Harley throughout the West: and has an ongoing curiosity about what is just over the next horizon.

Becky has made her dream of nightclub singing a reality. Following in the tradition of Carmen McRae and Ella Fitzgerald, she performs jazz standards in lounges around Albuquerque. She joins John on the Harley; and enjoys the serenity of their adobe home.

Special Services to Libraries

In addition to corporate and government clients, we have been providing consulting services to library and information services since 1982. Baltimore County Public Library first hired us to assist with Human Relations training and a Quality of Work Life project. Through referrals from pleased customers, our services to the profession have grown - as we provide consultation to library clients across the nation and internationally. Although we are not librarians by training, we have established ourselves as consultants who understand the needs of librarians and their customers, and the context of the current information services environment. We bring our experience from private industry to support vital, customer-driven libraries. We believe that libraries are at a critical moment of challenge and opportunity; and librarians must step up to the current challenges, thereby enhancing the personal quality of life for their customers, and improving the economic and cultural vitality of our communities. We commit to giving library leaders the rationale and tools for the transformative change we believe is necessary.

In 1989, the Library Leadership Institute at Snowbird was created to identify, train, and provide a network for future library leaders. Founder Dennis Day invited us to design and facilitate the institute - to enhance self-awareness, practice skills, build courage, and help library leaders develop self-confidence. The Institute has been regarded as one of the finest leadership development programs in the country; and has spawned numerous state and regional Institutes. We have facilitated institutes in Maryland, Massachusetts, Ohio, Texas, Alaska, Montana, Illinois, New Mexico, Idaho, Nebraska, Nevada, New Jersey, North Carolina, and the Pacific Northwest which includes Canadian participants. We travel around the globe to provide the Aurora Leadership Institute for Australians and New Zealanders. The first one was held in 1995, and the 12th Aurora was completed in February, 2010. We also delivered the Magellan Executive Leadership Institute for Australian administrators; and have provided several Leading From Any Position programs for LIANZA, the National Library of Australia, and the State Library of New South Wales in Sydney. We have recently helped the Edmonton Public Library, Alberta, Canada with enhancement of their already fine services by providing them with our Leading From Any Position workshop.

We have made presentations to the American Library Association, Public Library Association, Special Library Association, ACRL, Maryland Association of Public Library Administrators, and many other state associations. Becky has created instructional materials with the Library Video Network of Baltimore County, and the Urban Library Council. She has also published in Public Libraries. Both John and Becky contributed to the 2001 Leadership in the Library and Information Science Professions edited by Mark Winston, and have published in the Australian Library Journal.
