2010 Eureka! Leadership Institute: June Engel

june engelHello, my name is June Engel. I am a Manager for San Diego County Library (SDCL), Imperial Beach Branch. After 15 years working at the Corona Public Library, first as an Acquisitions Library Assistant and then an Adult Services Library Specialist, I decided to return to school and earn my MLIS. It took me 3 years while still working full time, but I earned my degree from the University of North Texas State. Two years ago I was recruited for my current position at the PLA Conference in Minneapolis. I have to say that working with SDCL has been one of the most fulfilling and enriching adventures of my life. IE – I made the right decision.

I fell in love with Imperial Beach (IB) the day I set foot in the town. The City and the Public Safety of this small town are both enthusiastic and supportive of their Library. Our Library has developed some great partnerships with them. I am active in the local Women's Club, Chamber of Commerce, and I attend all the City Council meetings.

In my spare time you can find me exploring new destinations in my area or taking walks on beaches or hiking trails. When not on the move I am usually curled up with a book about British Medieval history. Studying this time period has been a hobby of mine since I was 10 years old. This, of course, leads me to attending many Renaissance Faires in California as it is the closest thing I have to going back to that time period.

I am very excited to be accepted to the Eureka Leadership Institute. I am looking forward to building my skills as a leader as well as discovering more about myself.
