2010 Eureka! Leadership Institute: Bill Kolb

bill kolbBill is presently a library assistant at the new Walnut Creek Library, part of the Contra Costa County Library in the East Bay Region of the San Francisco Bay Area. He completed his MLIS at San Jose State in June (well, February, really, but they sent him his fancy paper in June), and is eager to get on with the whole 'librarian' thing. He primarily focuses on all things teen, but is also the de facto tech support guy for his library, as well as spending no small amount of time on the reference desk.

He spent the past two and a half years running the day-to-day operations of the interim facility (aka the Park Place Library) while construction proceeded on the fantastical new 42,000 square foot Walnut Creek Library. At Park Place, he developed a deep and abiding appreciation for just how much work the shelvers and clerks do in a library, and hopes to never have to work that hard again.

Bill's colorful employment history includes 10 years at Fedex and six years as a sports writer for the Contra Costa Times, among other random things.

Bill fancies himself a natural leader, and has a tendency to rise to leadership opportunities. He hopes that his experience at Eureka! will help him become a more polished, professional leader. He also heard the food is really good.

Bill and his beautiful wife are the proud parents of two thoroughly delightful, exhausting little people. Family time is Bill's favorite thing in the world.

Among Bill's other interests are baseball, reading graphic novels, steam-punk and all the dystopian YA fiction he can get his hands on, writing (fiction), covering high school sports (still) and talking about himself in the third person.
