One of my favorite things about my work is getting to see the amazing things that can happen when bringing two people together through the Library and Literacy. Pictured with me are Lilly and Maureen who recently came to talk at our tutor training. Oh how inspiring! Listening to the pair talk, it was hard to discern who was getting more out of the experience, the learner or the tutor! :) I love that these life changing experiences happen as a result of the library!
Before becoming the Literacy Specialist for Butte County Library six years ago, I worked with Project READ at Redwood City Public for nine years (a tremendous experience!) and prior to that, with Santa Clara County’s program where I started out as a volunteer tutor in 1990 and got more and more involved. I feel so fortunate – it has been a rich experience all the way around, with life long friendships developed along the way. Honored to be included in the Eureka! Leadership Institute, I am hopeful of discovering and developing skills to more adeptly contribute to the community and our field.
Serving as the Redwood City Friends of Literacy-Board President, winding up my term on the California Library Association’s Legislative Committee and being an active member of the Butte Literacy Council are some of the things I’m involved with these days. My husband Matt and I live on 20 acres of almonds outside of Chico with our two dogs and a cat. I love being out in the sun and the freedom of being able to hop in the car and go! I’m looking forward to meeting you and to our shared adventure!
